This weekend I watched the movie, We Are Planetary, and I absolutely LOVED it. There are so many gems of wisdom in this film. I will give you a brief overview, but I highly recommend renting it. They interviewed a wide variety of individuals including: astronauts, environmentalists, philosophers, biologists, meditation teachers, zen masters, ecologists, explorers, nature writers, artists, anthropologists, mindfulness teachers, and various Indigenous leaders. http://weareplanetary.com/
It talks about how with previous cultures, we were organized around a fundamental story. That story stated that we were embedded, connected and a part of nature. Now, our current culture has led us to believe a totally different story. It is one of alienation from nature and us seeing ourselves as seperate from nature, superior to nature and walking around on top of nature not with nature.
The reality of this is we are all one species with a common destiny. The issue is that it becomes easy to forget that we are part of a living planet when we don’t see it. How many people commute to work every day without seeing or spending time in nature?
They go on to say, that we need to plant the seeds of a new story. The truth is, we have never left nature. We need to realize how we’re embedded in nature. Plants breathe out what we breathe in and vice versa. We need to start looking at nature again with the awe and wonder of a child.
There is so much more, but I don’t want to spoil you watching it. This film so resonated for me with all that it said. In the end, we are connected to all that is. As Susanne the Sunshine Faery from by award-winning children’s book says:
“We are all connected like beams of light to the sun,
So we must be kind to others for we are all truly one.
No matter where we come from in terms of colour or race,
We are linked one and all to this brilliant light place.”
Sending sunshine and loving connection your way,
Ohhh… This one looks very good. Thanks for the review Susanne.
It is really good Wes. It helped give me hope again that I am not alone on my journey. 😉 Sending sunshine your way, Susanne
